I’ve always loved going to the library and browsing through titles to find something interesting to read. If there is a specific title I’m looking for, I reserve the book online and head to the library to pick it up.
Did you know that in recent years, it has become really easy to borrow eBooks and audiobooks from your library to listen to on your devices?
With OverDrive, you can enjoy free eBooks, audiobooks, and more from your library's digital collection. All you need to get started is a wi-fi connection and a library card.
OverDrive's catalog includes more than 2 million digital titles from more than 5,000 publishers. The company's global network includes more than 27,000 libraries and schools. OverDrive was founded in 1986 and is located in Cleveland, Ohio.
Here’s how to get started with OverDrive.
Step 1 - Create a free OverDrive account
Download the OverDrive app to your smartphone or tablet and create an account. Make sure you’re connected to wi-fi if you plan to download an eBook or audiobook.
Step 2 - Add your library
Type in the name of your library to find it in OverDrive. Have your library card handy since you’ll need to enter it to borrow any titles in OverDrive.
Step 3 - Search for titles in your library
Type in the name of the title you’re looking for in the search box. In the results, the symbol in the upper right corner lets you know if it’s a book, audiobook, ebook or movie.
Step 4 - Borrow the Title to add to your bookshelf
Click on the image of the book to determine if it is available to borrow.
- If a copy is available, you will see a ‘Borrow’ option.
- If there are no copies available, you will get the option to ‘Place a Hold’.
Step 5 - Visit your bookshelf to listen to your eBook or Audiobook
To listen to your AudioBook, click on the title in your bookshelf. The audio player will display in the OverDrive app so you can easily listen.
If you borrowed an eBook, the OverDrive reader will display so you can read your book.
Step 6 - Return your eBook or Audiobook
All digital titles are returned automatically to your library at the end of their lending period and deleted from your devices. You will receive notification 3 days before your lending period expires and will be allowed to extend your lending period, if the title is available.
